Doshin Michael Nelson Roshi
The path to awakening is not a straight one. And yet some of us are determined to see our way to the end, which is nothing less than finding our way back to ourselves, into this moment, into this body and mind and through this 21st Century culture, an awakening human being.
Doshin is a poet, troublemaker, and teacher – a Zen Master of no rank. He is the founder of Integral Zen, Inc. the Colorado branch of the Hollow Bones Zen Order and co-founder of the Poetry of Dying Project, which uses the mirror of death to point to the essence of life. Doshin worked directly with Jun Po as he first released and then developed the Process of Mondo Zen™. He has been fully trained and is adequately skilled in this incredibly transformative practice.
Mondo Zen Koan Process Retreat
This 7-day Mondo Zen Retreat is a modern adaptation of the traditional Japanese Rinzai Zen retreats. In addition to traditional Zazen (sitting meditation) and Koan study, Yoga or Internal Martial Arts is part of the daily practice.
In this school of Zen, it is essential that you awaken, and there is a fierce, yet compassionate, insistence that you do so now. Meditating and sitting quietly is not enough! You must realize your inherent freedom. You must answer the question, “Who are you?” from the purest depths of realization, moving far beyond the normal modes of speculative thought.
This retreat offer men and women the opportunity to experience the “answer” to this question in a way that transcends all hope, fear, and doubt.
At Integral Zen, we use the zazen, kinhin, and koans from traditional Rinzai Zen. We also use the Five Training Elements and the transformative practice of Mondo Zen™ to re-orient, mature and enlighten our ego and our emotional bodies. In addition to these, we add the conceptual framework of Integral Theory and more rigorous forms of individual and collective psychological shadow work.
With Integral language and a deep meditative practice, we are able to discuss complex topics with greater understanding, clarity, and compassion.
